Family fun indoors
If the weather is less than favourable – let’s face it, sometimes it’s not – never fear, there’s no reason for the kids to be bored in Westport!
Westport House has a number of options for all the family including tour of the house, indoor play areas for children and the opportunity to while away some time painting pottery; there are four leisure centres within walking distance of the town centre; Westport has its own town-centre cinema, and there’s a second 20 minutes away in Castlebar.
Further afield, a trip to the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life is a great day out for the whole family.
More seasonally, in the summer, at Easter, Halloween and at Christmas there is a choice of four kids clubs to keep the youngsters entertained while you relax and enjoy yourself. There is also a range of summer camps for kids during the school holidays.
Westport House offers a number of options for indoor family fun. Several architecturally stunning rooms; the 30-minute Pirate Queen Tours twice a day or take your own tour of the Pirate Queen, Grace O’Malley’s dungeons; 4 permanent exhibitions or enjoy some refreshments in the restored old kitchens. For the kids there’s Paint Your Own Pottery during high season, lots of laughs with the funny mirrors,and coming soon, bumper cars!
Westport Leisure Centres
There are four leisure centres in Westport.
The Beech Club Leisure Centre at the Westport Woods Hotel has a fully-equipped gym, an 18m heated swimming pool, a children’s splash pool and a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
C Club Leisure Centre pool at The Castlecourt Hotel at the Westport Plaza Hotel and the Castlecourt Hotel boasts a 20m pool and kiddies splash pool, a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and a fully equipped gym.
Ocean Spirit Leisure Centre pool at Hotel Westport has a 20m pool, a lounger pool, a children’s splash pool, a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, a gym and fitness room for classes and personal training.
Westport Leisure Centre is a municipal facility which has a 25m swimming pool with disabled hoist, a plunge pool, a children’s fun pool, a air-conditioned fitness suite and aerobics studio, and a sauna, jacuzzi and steam room

Paint your own pottery
Pikapotandpaint is a mobile paint your own pottery service. They come to you with everything you need to produce a unique, hand painted piece of pottery. Choose from functional tableware to figurines, money banks, vases, picture frames and lots more!
There are two cinemas in the area. Westport Cineplex is in the heart of Westport town off James St beside the Leisure Centre and Children’s Playground. Mayo MovieWorld, in the Mayo Leisure Centre in Castlebar, is a 20 minute drive from Westport if you can’t find your movie listing of choice in Westport.
National Museum of Ireland – Country Life
A visit to the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life is a great day out for the whole family, with plenty to see and do for everyone. Home to the national collection of objects representing the traditional way of life in Ireland since 1850, the National Museum of Country Life is set in modern exhibition galleries in the spectacular grounds of Turlough Park House and surrounded by magnificent gardens and lake.
Kids Clubs in Westport
Westport has a range of kids clubs to keep the youngsters entertained during your visit.
Go!Kids! Club at the Westport Woods Hotel is open mornings and evenings over the Public Holidays and weekends at Easter, October and the lead into the New Year. It also operates daily in the summer months.
The Mini-Explorers Club at the Atlantic Coast Hotel runs on school holidays, midterm breaks and bank holidays.
The Panda Club at Hotel Westport runs over the Public Holidays/Weekends at Easter, October and the lead into the New Year. It also operates daily in the summer months.

There is a wide selection of summer camps to choose from in July and August in Westport.
The Westport House Summer Camp offers child-focused facilities that are second to none as well as the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of one of Ireland’s most beautiful historic houses.
The Buzz Club at the Castlecourt Hotel and Westport Plaza Hotel places a big emphasis on sport and other exciting activities include Hip Hop Dance Classes, Bike Trails, Beach Trips, Treasure Hunts and much more.
The Covey Club children’s activity camp at Westport Leisure Park is a week of fun and enjoyment for five to 12-year-olds that runs each day from 9.30am to 3.30pm during the months of July and August.
